About This Spelling List: o-e words - set 1

A split digraph is a spelling pattern where two letters, typically a vowel and an "e," work together to create a single sound in a word, even though they are separated by another letter. In this list, split diagraph o-e is used to spell the long /o/ sound. By adding the e, you make the o say its name.

Here are some examples of how adding an e turns a short /o/ sound into a long /o/ sound:

Cod + e = code

Hop + e = hope

Robe + e = robe

Click on the speaker icon next to each word. Can you hear the long /o/ sounds?

"Thank goodness for Spellzone during this remote learning phase. The site is easy for students to navigate independently and they're really enjoying the activities and spelling games. You get an awful lot for your money with Spellzone. Really reassuring is the very prompt response with helpdesk queries. I've very rarely needed the helpdesk, but when I have, the issue has been addressed and sorted within a very short time."
