About This Spelling List: Spelling longer ff words

In this word list, we will explore longer words that contain the double ff spelling. The same rules that apply to shorter words also extend to these longer examples.

When a word has the f sound following a short vowel, you should double the f. However, if the f sound is followed by a consonant, it should not be doubled.

For instance, in coffee, the f follows the short /o/ sound, so is doubled.

As you engage with these activities, pay close attention to how these rules work and practise using these words correctly in your writing.

"Thank goodness for Spellzone during this remote learning phase. The site is easy for students to navigate independently and they're really enjoying the activities and spelling games. You get an awful lot for your money with Spellzone. Really reassuring is the very prompt response with helpdesk queries. I've very rarely needed the helpdesk, but when I have, the issue has been addressed and sorted within a very short time."
