About this word list ▼
About this word list ▲
In a long vowel sound, we say the name of the letter itself. For example, in reed or meet, the ee sound is stretched out. This is different from the short vowel sound in words like red or met.
The ee spelling pattern is frequently used to represent the long e sound in English and appears in the middle of words like beef and cheese and also at the end of words like bee, see, or tree.
When learning the ee spelling pattern, watch out for words that have similar sounds but different spellings and meanings, such as meet or meat. Click on any word in this list to look it up in the Spellzone dictionary.
