About this test list: Days of the week

In Roman times, the days of the week were named after the sun, the moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.

Later, the Germanic peoples adjusted the names of the days so that they reflected their own mythology rather than that of the Romans. As English is part of the West Germanic family of languages, the English words for the days (mostly) derive from these Germanic names.

In this word list, you will learn how to spell each day of the week and also the words we use for different time periods in relation to today. As these are common words, it’s important that you become a confident speller of them. Why not keep to the time theme and try out our Against the Clock spelling game?

"Thank goodness for Spellzone during this remote learning phase. The site is easy for students to navigate independently and they're really enjoying the activities and spelling games. You get an awful lot for your money with Spellzone. Really reassuring is the very prompt response with helpdesk queries. I've very rarely needed the helpdesk, but when I have, the issue has been addressed and sorted within a very short time."
