Spelling list: Words ending in dle, gle or fle

The /d l/ sound at the end of a word is usually spelled dle.
The /g l/ sound at the end of a word is usually spelled gle.
The /f l/ sound at the end of a word is usually spelled fle - unless the /f l/ sound is a suffix, as in handful.

cradle
Each baby was placed in a cradle.
ladle
Ladle the soup into a bowl.
doodle
The artist was bored so she drew a quick doodle.
noodle
Whilst eating a meal, he dropped a noodle.
