Spelling list: Words ending in dle, gle or fle

The /d l/ sound at the end of a word is usually spelled dle.
The /g l/ sound at the end of a word is usually spelled gle.
The /f l/ sound at the end of a word is usually spelled fle - unless the /f l/ sound is a suffix, as in handful.

cradle	Each baby was placed in a cradle.
ladle	Ladle the soup into a bowl.
doodle	The artist was bored so she drew a quick doodle.
noodle	Whilst eating a meal, he dropped a noodle.
poodle	Her first dog was a poodle.
bugle	He played a bugle in the brass band.
angle	His body was bent at an awkward angle.
bangle	She wore a gold bangle on her wrist.
jangle	I can hear the chains jangle.
strangle	In the film he tried to strangle his enemy.
trifle	She made a delicious trifle for dessert. *
stifle	I must try to stifle my yawn. *
baffle	Try not to baffle him with your knowledge.
raffle	Hopefully, my ticket will win the raffle. *
