Poetic techniques

onomatopoeia Onomatopoeia is when words are spelt like they sound: bang, pop, crack. *
imagery Imagery is when words are used to create a picture in a reader's mind. *
simile Simile involves describing something by comparing it with something else. *
metaphor Symbolism is an art style which uses mythology and metaphor to convey ideas. *
stanza A poem has a minimum of one stanza. *
rhythm Tone is the feel of the text, indicated by choice of words, rhythm of sentence and such like. *
rhyme Time, crime and chime all rhyme.
sonnet A sonnet is a love poem of 14 lines. *
personification Personification is when you describe an inanimate object to like a person. *
assonance Assonance involves words that have the same vowel sound. *
alliteration When two or more words begin with the same letter or sound is called alliteration. *
couplet
refrain
repetition When words or phrases are repeated for effect we call it repetition. *
tone Tone is the feel of the text, indicated by choice of words, rhythm of sentence and such like. *
