The long /u/ sound in spelling is pronounced yoo and can be found in words like cube or music.
One way of spelling the long /u/ sound is using the ew spelling pattern. This pattern can be found in words like new, few, and dew. The ew letter combination is usually placed at the end of a word or syllable.
When spelling words with the ew pattern, watch out for words with similar sounds which may have different patterns like ue or u-e. For example, though they both sound the same, the word dew has the ew pattern and the word due has the ue pattern.
