Password guidance

  • Single user, teacher and Administrator passwords should be a minimum of twelve characters and include both letters and numbers.
  • There are various options available for creating logins for students in a school:
    • Spellzone will automatically create them.
    • Via .csv upload.
    • Google/Classroom email.
    • Synchronise your school data automatically with Spellzone via Wonde.
  • All usernames and passwords are case sensitive.
  • When creating your own unique passwords use a combination of numbers, symbols, and both upper- and lower-case letters.
  • Remember that each character you add to a password or passphrase makes it an order of magnitude harder to attack via brute-force methods.
  • Do not choose passwords based upon details that may not be as confidential as you’d expect, such as your birth date, your Social Security or phone number, or names of family members.
  • Don’t use easily guessed passwords, such as “password” or “user.”
  • Do not use words that can be found in the dictionary.
  • Avoid using simple adjacent keyboard combinations: For example, “qwerty” and “asdzxc” and “123456”.
  • Avoid using the same password for multiple web sites including your email account.
  • Spellzone recommends that you change your password at least on an annual basis.

One of the students has put in a huge amount of effort in completing Spellzone at least 3 times a week since his arrival with us in January. Looking at his scores after the latest GL testing, his standardised score has risen from 99 to 131. This is a truly phenomenal result. I just wanted to share the best result I have ever seen.
