Word endings: -le, and exceptions e.g. -al, -el, -ol

In this unit, we learned more about the /əl/ sound at the ends of words:

Think back - help with spelling rules
  • The letters le, el, al and il can be used to spell the sound
  • le is the most common spelling
  • al is most common if it is a suffix
  • the letter that comes before may help indicate which ending you should choose
  • il is the least common.
