This unit looks at words that end with the sound /shƏl/ and /shƏs/

Teaching point The word ending /shƏl/ can be spelled two ways:

cial as in artificial intelligence tial as in torrential rain

Sometimes, something in the root word can help us:

president > presidential race > racial

And -cial is common after a vowel letter; -tial is common after a consonant
