Unit 27 summary

Word endings: -able, -ible

In this unit, we looked at the suffixes -able and -ible. Generally:

Think back - help with spelling rules
  • If we can hear a full root word, we use -able
  • If we cannot, we use -ible
  • It can be useful to learn -ible examples because there are fewer of them!
  • We can apply the suffix without changing the root spelling but sometimes we have to drop the e, double the final consonant or change the y to i.

The Spellzone interactive course is intended to be used online and may not be printed.

"Thank goodness for Spellzone during this remote learning phase. The site is easy for students to navigate independently and they're really enjoying the activities and spelling games. You get an awful lot for your money with Spellzone. Really reassuring is the very prompt response with helpdesk queries. I've very rarely needed the helpdesk, but when I have, the issue has been addressed and sorted within a very short time."
