How to use Spellzone as part of your homeschooling routine

As you may have discerned from our last few posts, Spellzone’s adaptable features make it the perfect spelling resource for a wide range of users from a variety of different fields. If you are a homeschooler, this blog post is for you! Have you thought about incorporating Spellzone into your schooling routine? Today we are going to share some ideas for how you can make the most of Spellzone at home.

  • Spellzone can be accessed from any device with an internet connection, depending for whatever your IT resources you may be. The course units, as well as the games, word lists, and blog, can be viewed on a conventional computer, as well as on a laptop, or mobile device.

  • The Spellzone course is made up of a series of units, which you can work through together with your student or set as a task for them to work through independently. This means that the student does not need to be constantly supervised and can be given the space to work through the task at their own pace and in their own time. For a guide on how to set a Spellzone unit as a classroom task, click here. You can also access the rest of our how-to guides here.

  • You do not need to assign the same task to all of your students. This means that Spellzone is perfect for working with students of different abilities at the same time – extremely useful if, for example, you are working with a pair of siblings who are of different ages. Furthermore, Spellzone is suitable for users with dyslexia – you can find more information here.

  • Here at Spellzone, we believe that one of the secrets to improving is to consistently make an effort with your spelling across all your subjects, rather than only focusing on good spelling in English lessons. Our course works using word lists, which can be adapted depending on the spellings your students may be required to learn. Again, different word lists can be assigned to students of different abilities. The word lists are also a great way of learning how to spell the technical terms in other subjects, such as the names of natural hazards, or elements in the periodic table. You can even personalise our word games so that they use a word list of your choice – just click on the football-shaped icon.

Finally, if you use Spellzone as part of your homeschooling routine, we would love to hear from you. Tell us how you use the course or send us in your spelling tips and we’ll share them on Facebook and Twitter. Happy spelling!
