  8. startled – suddenly alarmed 
    The loud bang startled the dog.
     
  9. stunned – surprised to the point of being unable to react
    You might be stunned when I tell you what happened.
     
  10. taken aback – extremely surprised or shocked
    They were taken aback by the goodwill they received from the community.
